VAIL— Developer Peter Knobel isn’t waiting for the townwide vote on his controversial Crossroads pro-posal before he throws his hat in the ring for another big Vail development.
His company has told the town that it is interested in redeveloping the Lionshead parking structure.
“We’re formulating our plan at this time,” Knobel said.
At least six other developers want to redevelop the garage, as well, the town of Vail said Monday.

Three other potential developers are from Texas, and one is from New York. There is possibly an eighth interested developer, Vail spokeswoman Suzanne Silver- thorn said.
The town launched a request for proposals for the 6.6-acre, town-owned site of the Lionshead parking garage, which was built in 1981. The town wants additional parking, hotel rooms, employee housing and retail. The town also said it would “entertain ideas” for meeting, event or conference facilities.
The site also includes the charter bus lot, which was the proposed site for a publicly funded conference center that was shot down by voters in November.
The redevelopment candidates must now submit an overview of their plans and qualifications by June 29.
Chuck Madison, spokesman for East West Resorts, said the company’s proposal would include hotel rooms, condos, timeshares, a spa and fitness center and restaurant space.
The proposal could also include a large conference center space, between 15,000 and 25,000 square feet, Madison said. Retail and office space are also part of the plan, Madison said.
East West’s proposal is still in a very preliminary stage, Madison said. East West would be looking for the town to maintain ownership of the property, leased to a developer on a long-term basis.
