Building boom continues in Vail
Street projects• East Meadow Drive: Bricks have been installed on Meadow Drive. Two areas near Crossroads still need to be paved with bricks. • Willow Bridge Road: Workers are pouring concrete for the new pedestrian bridge. Willow Bridge Road will also be repaved with asphalt over the next week.• Village parking structure: About 100 parking spaces that have been closed for work on the street-heating boiler will reopen within the next week.Front Door projectWorkers are doing excavation and shoring on the site. About 130,000 cubic yards of dirt have been removed, with another 33,000 left to be taken away. Excavation should be complete by Nov. 1. A crane is supposed to arrive at the site Oct. 17, and another crane is supposed to come Oct. 24.The project, near the Vista Bahn, is supposed to be done by 2008. Vail Resorts’ Front Door project includes a new skier services building, a private club, a new spa for the Lodge at Vail and 13 Lodge at Vail Chalets residences. Ten of the 13 residences have been sold, averaging $2,400 per square foot.Four SeasonsThe Four Seasons is working on getting the dewatering permit, said Dave Brooks of the John Hardy Group. The developer is also still working on easement agreements with neighbors for shoring the project.The $260 million project will have 120 hotel rooms, 16 condos and 19 fractional-ownership units. The completion date was once scheduled for 2008, but that date has been pushed back to 2009, Brooks said. The Four Seasons will be just southwest of the main Vail roundabout.

The project includes 100 hotel rooms, 38 fractional-ownership units, two restaurants and a spa. The restaurants will be DaVinci, an Italian restaurant, and Milano, a casual restaurant. Construction began in November 2004.One Willow Bridge RoadWorkers are doing interior finishes and finishing up the exterior, which is 90 percent complete, said Todd Johnston, project manager for the Weitz Company. They are also finishing work on the pool and spa area and working on the interior of the Marketplace building, he said. The first residents will move in sometime during the upcoming ski season, Johnston said. The marketplace should be open by the first of the new year, Johnston said.Work began in January 2005. It has 10 condos and 12 fractional-ownership units. The marketplace will include a cafeteria, a grocery, a bakery, a sweet shop, a wine bar and a liquor store. One Willow Bridge Road is at the International Bridge and East Meadow Drive in Vail Village.SonnenalpTwo more stores, Luca Bruno Due and a high-end antiques store, are expected to move in and be open by Thanksgiving. Verbatim Booksellers and the Swiss Chalet restaurant are already open in the new wing, which includes new hotel rooms.Other projects• The Vail Mountainview Residences on Gore Creek is being built on the site of Apollo Park near Ford Park. It will have 24 condos. Demolition should begin within the next two weeks, and construction is expected be completed by 2008, said Ron Byrne, the developer. The two westernmost buildings of Apollo Park will be torn down.• The Ritz-Carlton Residences-Vail will have 107 condos. April 2007 is being targeted for the beginning of construction, said Russ Forrest of the town of Vail. The U.S. Forest Service has given approval to Vail Resorts to build a lift with a base near the project. The Ritz-Carlton site is at the corner of Forest Road and the South Frontage Road near the Vail Marriott.• Solaris at the Crossroads site was approved earlier this month in a townwide vote. Construction is supposed to start at the end of the 2006-07 ski season and last two years. It will have 69 condos, a 10-lane bowling alley, a three-screen movie theater, a public plaza-ice rink, stores and restaurants.• Work has started on the Manor Vail project, which will add 17 new condos. Workers are doing foundation work and are adding fire sprinklers, said Chuck Madison of East West Partners, the developer. Work will stop in December and resume in April, Madison said. The targeted completion date is summer of 2008, he said.
